Today we are going to be talking about the super food you take for granted, and should be having more of! Can you guess what it is? Well, enough of the anticipation, we’ll just tell ya; LEMONS. And if you guessed that, congratulations, you can have my job. Lemons are more important than you know. It always seemed so strange for me when people put lemons in their water, but other than the fact that they look fancy; there are many benefits. Lemons are full of important vitamins and nutrients, but here’s how you can get the full benefit from them:
Lemons help keep your skin fresh, tight and bright thanks to the antioxidants that live in them. These antioxidants destroy free radicals while producing collagen. Collagen helps keep your skin young and bouncy, preventing wrinkles. That’s also due to the high Vitamin C value packed inside!
Vitamin C also helps produce white blood cells to help protect and strengthen your immune system. Immunity helps fight off colds, flus and diseases, helping you stay healthier longer.
Lemons also help with making metabolism faster (YAY!) and overall heart health thanks to it’s vitamin B6. B6 helps boost your body’s system into gear, providing overall health.
Despite the acidity in lemons, if taken in small doses, lemon juice can actually be GOOD for your teeth! Lemons have calcium and this mineral is good for the heart and for helping to prevent gum disease. Of course, it’s famous for its bone- and teeth-strengthening properties.
If you plan on eating a lemon raw however, make sure to brush your teeth immediately after. Though most people wouldn’t choose to bite into a lemon, for those that do should be weary. Lemon has high acidity, which can wear off the enamel of your teeth. Enamel is what protects our teeth from rotting, so once it’s gone, it’s gone.
